I am directed by the Lords Commissioners of His
kajesty's Treasury to refer to your letter of the 17th
ultimo, stating that the Chartered Bank of India,
Australia and China have authorised their Manager at
Hongkong to increase his note issue up to $26,000,000,
and have authorized the increase to $3,500,000 of the
Note Issue in North China, making a total of
$29,500,000 allocated at present against the
$30,000,000 authorised,
In reply I am to inform you that on the under-
standing that the conditions as to cover for the note
issue which are laid down in the Bank's Charters have
been duly observed My Lords offer no objection to the
increase.
